Last night I was lucky enough to attend the premier of a great little film ALL FOODIES should see: Julie & Julia

Here is the plot on Wiki: Frustrated temp secretary Julie Powell (Amy Adams) embarks on a year-long culinary quest to cook all 524 recipes in Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking. She chronicles her trials and tribulations in a blog that catches on with the food crowd. The film also covers the years Child (Meryl Streep) and her husband Paul (Stanley Tucci) spent in Paris during the 1940s and 1950s, when he was a foreign diplomat who was eventually investigated by Senator Joseph McCarthy for alleged communist ties.

The film is interestingly set up where we go back and forth in time between Julie’s cooking project and Julia’s beginnings in France where she learns the art of professional cooking. Of course both face challenges and frustrations along their path but both have very different reactions. Julia faces things pretty much head on and Julie tends to collapse easily. But both in the end persevere and accomplish their goal….and more. I won’t say more.

Meryl Streep is fantastic as Julia Child. It is quite a challenging role as Julia is famous for her exuberance and voice. I found all the characters very endearing and well played. And boy did we laugh during the movie. I mean the whole theater laughing in unison. It was great. Its really a lovely movie to see. its not Oscar material but very light and fun and entertaining.

And the food! OMG make sure to go on full stomach cause otherwise you may starve to death seeing all the delicious food being prepared in the movie: tarte tatin, boeuf bourgignon, lobster termidor, aspics, chocolate cake, duck…Oh my! All yummy.

I googled Julie Powell and I think i found her blog, well its bits and pieces and only goes back to Aug 2002, if you are curious.
