Salt Dough Pumpkins


  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • yellow and red food coloring


  • Pre-heat oven to 400F. Line a baking tray with foil.
  • Mix flour and salt in a bowl.
  • Add a bit of the water at a time until a ball forms that remains dry in texture. Knead for 1 minute.
  • Make a deep thumb imprint in dough and add about 4 drops of red and 8 drops of yellow food coloring. Slowly mix in the food coloring by kneading the dough. Add more color or flour if necessary.
  • Divide into 3 balls: one big, one medium and one small.
  • Wrap and tighten a kitchen string a few times around to create the pumpkin indents. Push in a branch tip on the top.
  • Turn off the oven, place pumpkins on tray and put tray in the oven. Leave in till oven has cooled. Let them air dry for a few days more after.
