I found this recipe when preparing my menu for my dad’s birthday. Everything was to be made on the barbecue, even the salad…but except the dessert lol. This appetizer was a big hit with everyone.

Although you can use a prepared salsa it is much better to make a quick one on your own. I just cut up some tomatoes, a slice of jalapeno, shallots, garlic, a touch of sugar and salt, olive oil and some lemon juice. I was out of cilantro but I chopped a Kaffir Lime leaf to put in the salsa. And freshly chopped shiso leaves to finish for decoration.

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 limes

  1. Cut the avocados in half lengthwise and remove the pits. With a finger cover the cut portion with a bit of olive oil. Squeeze half a lime over the avocados. If you are preparing them ahead of time place the avocados side down on the plate and refrigerate.
  2. Over a medium heat grill the avocados for 3-5 minutes, until you have a grill line.
  3. Spoon the avocados with some salsa, sprinkle sprinkle with the salt and cilantro (optional).
