Care for a slice of Peach Walnut Coffee Cake?

Are you a regular victim of the 3 pm craving? A slice of this Peach Walnut Coffee Cake, with your favorite cup of coffee or tea, will definitely hit the spot. It’s just peachy!

Sitting at my desk I suddenly feel an energy slump almost every workday in the afternoon. Chances are if I look at the clock it is probably just about 3pm. I need a little boost of sugar, a little energy kick in the hiney, to finish off the day. This Peach Walnut Coffee Cake is a healthier alternative to just plain cake, because of the protein boost from the walnuts and a heavy fruit dose in every slice.

Meet the Hrapocusa (Croatian Dol Cake)

Nut lovers will go nuts for the Croatian torta Hrapocusa, or  Dol Cake. The almond cake supports a massise walnut topping, all held together with loads of sugar and eggs.

Well this is officially my first Croatian recipe here on CulturEatz! Not only that but the torta Hrapocusa specifically comes from a small village of Dol, on the Croation island of Brac. You and I may have never heard of it before, but over there the cake is a huge deal.  They say every family in Dol has their own secret recipe. And there is an annual Night of Hrapocusa event where the population goes from about 100 inhabitants to over a 1,000 people.

Let’s find out more about this very popular cake (which I turned into ‘cupcakes’).

Saying Goodbye to Cheap Ethnic Eatz with the Best of 2015

So this is it! Not only is this the last post of 2015, but it will be my last post under the name Cheap Ethnic Eatz! I announced a few days ago my new name for my blog rebrand: CulturEatz.

The end of the year and the last post of 2015 are the perfect setting to say goodbye to Cheap Ethnic Eatz. I want to thank every member who’s ever joined the dinner group I ran from 2007 to 2011. They are the ones who inspired me to start a blog in the first place. Cheap Ethnic Eatz will have lived for 8 1/2 years. It has changed a lot over the years. And now it is a cocooned caterpillar that is about to emerge into a beautiful butterfly.

This year I will celebrate with a special and sentimental Rhubarb Walnut Marmalade.

I am forever thankful to my family, friends, coworkers and all of you online for reading my posts, eating my food, help preparing it with me and leaving your cherished comments. I could never express enough my gratitude for each time you take a minute and come visit me here.

Watercress Endive Salad with Walnuts and Vinaigrette

It’s Food ‘n Flix time again! In this monthly group a ‘host’ picks a movie of their choice that pertains to food. Everyone watches the movie and then makes a recipe which the film inspired. It can be any recipe you want. This month’s pick is hosted by Camilla at Culinary Adventures with Camilla. She picked a movie that is very dear to my heart: Le Festin de Babette, or translated to Babette’s Feast.

Since there is a very set menu in the movie the choice of what to make was limited. Well we do not have to make a recipe from the movie but it felt more à propos this time. My original idea fell through drastically (keep reading) so I ended up going with “la salade”. It may appear quite simple but my Watercress Endive Salad with Walnuts and Vinaigrette is actually quite lovely and elegant to the palate.

Maple Walnut Coffee from BLEND and a double Giveaway

I really need to get on a smoothie wagon! I know they are healthy and the rave right now but for some silly reason I forget. No more procrastination, now that I have two amazing books devoted entirely to smoothies which were written by two fabulous fellow food bloggers. They are just delicious whether they are fruit based, surprisingly great veggie based, tea or coffee based, and some that are just a decadent yet healthy dessert.

I will tell you all about these two books shortly and I will share with you the recipe I first sampled. If falls under the coffee category but I would have this for dessert to: the Maple Walnut Coffee. And read all the way to the instructions on how to win the 2 giveaways!
