Raspberry Coconut Protein Bars

Did you know you can make protein bars at home for a fraction of the cost of store bought ones? These Raspberry Coconut Protein Bars are healthy and a fun energy snack.

It’s Food ‘n Flix time again! In this monthly group a host picks a movie of their choice that pertains to food. Everyone watches the movie and then makes a recipe which the film inspired. It can be any recipe you want. This month’s pick is hosted by Amy of Amy’s Cooking Adventures, who suggested a fun chick flick, Failure to Launch, for which I made Raspberry Coconut Protein Bars !

Quick Raspberry Flatbread

Quick Raspberry Flatbread: a unique fruity twist to the classic thinner bread with a little raspberry puree mixed in. Make it all with fruit or half and half for fun twists.

#twelveloaves is a great group where we bake a bread with the addition of the monthly theme flavor or ingredient. Exploring a less full-on yeasty road this month, we were asked to prepare an original Cracker, Crisps or Flatbread. I was originally planning on going with down the cracker route but settled on an unusual fruit based bread with a Raspberry Flatbread.

Bourbon Lavender Raspberry Applesauce

I will start off this post with clearing my guilty feelings. I am sorry fellow bloggers for not having been around to comment this week. Life has been nuts. Nothing majors, just super busy. I thought my schedule would calm down as the weather would cool down for fall…but nothing could have been further from the truth. Work is super busy and my social schedule is busting at the seam. So next week starting with a clean slate and I’ll be back at commenting.

Have you been suffering from the same busy bee ailment as I? I have to say I am not complaining, life has been a blast. Today will  be more of a visual treat of a day trip spent with friends. One of our stops was an apple orchard. And it was the perfect excuse to super-major-over the top-play with the best applesauce ever I made last year. The trick is making it over a long period of time in a slow cooker: it totally gets caramelized and the apple flavor dominates. This year I added notes of lavender, vanilla and raspberries with a splash of bourbon. Sounds like  weird mix but they all do go together and the notes were subtle. Time to make some Bourbon Lavender Raspberry Applesauce!

Raspberry Granita and its Warm Sauce

I have the most adorable story to tell you. I have a new boyfriend. He is 7. We met on the bus while I was playing a game on my phone on Tuesday. He asked me over for a playdate to play Connect 4 and Skylanders. And I had to ask him what Skylanders was. I was getting the extend description version but had to get off the bus at my stop. He proceeded to tell me approximately where he lived. I told him we would hopefully meet on the street soon and then go play. His mother and the other passengers around had smiles and were muffling giggles from how cute this whole thing was.

Bridesmaids: Food ‘n Flix Roundup

At the beginning of this month, I announced that I would be hosting Food ‘n Flix with my chosen movie Bridesmaids. I love all the groups I am part of but I have to say there is a level of exchange with this group I just don’t get with others. Not only do we cook from a same inspiration, we also discuss the movies. It creates a real virtual conversation. And this month we welcomed 2 new members: Wendy and Joanne. We hope to see them regularly and perhaps you would like to join?

Many saw this movie for a 2nd or 3 rd time, and a lot saw it for the first time. And boy were the opinions varied this month. Like many who saw Bridesmaids for the first time this month, I have to admit the first time I saw the movie I was not super crazy like everyone else was. There is a lot of slap stick comedy.

I know I am not alone with my initial reaction but I found a really good quote online from Roger Ebert saying this movie: “seems to be a more or less deliberate attempt to cross the Chick Flick with the Raunch Comedy. It definitely proves that women are the equal of men in vulgarity, sexual frankness, lust, vulnerability, overdrinking and insecurity.” I did see it again a year later and really enjoyed it. I got passed the gimmicky stuff and saw more into the heart of the movie. For this challenge I now saw it for a 3rd time and I can definitely say it is a favorite comedy.

The Liver Experiment Week 7: Lamb Liver Raspberries and Hazelnut Salad

Here we are at the 7th installment of The Liver Experiment where I will try to acquire a taste for liver. Over a 10 week period I will cook, consume and post my experience once a week about trying to appreciate my food nemesis. I hope my experiment will inspire you to try the same with your own personal food nemesis. And even if you are determined to hate liver for life I hope you will follow along throughout the whole series.

It seems like all the recipes I have made so far all have a hearty edge to them. Not this week as we are going green with a Lamb Liver Raspberries and Hazelnut Salad.
