A Meal out of Three Cookbooks

A great selection of three cookbooks with themes are used to build a wonderful 3-course meal.

The internet is an infinite source for recipes, no one can deny that, but sometimes sitting in your favorite chair and leafing through a cookbook can be really relaxing and gratifying. Cookbooks also have a great knack for gathering a whole bunch of recipes on a specific theme. Today I will give you a brief introduction to such three cookbooks I received recently: Spiralizer, Slow-cooker and Vegetarian Thai.

A Meal out of 3 great Cookbooks

I have savored my time leafing through these cookbooks and testing out some of the recipes lately. I am including the main description of the books, a recipe and a “my-2-cents” paragraph for each. Bon Appetit!

Not Yo Mama’s Neapolitan

Nothing beats the summer heat like a Neapolitan frozen treat. Yonanas comes to the rescue with a healthy fruit “ice cream” which will also be kind to your bikini line.

It’s really summer and it is officially frozen dessert season here in the Northern Hemisphere. As you all know I am a huge fan of ice cream but I have been watching what I eat and when I look at the calorie count of ice cream…yikes. That does not mean I will completely deprive myself of ice cream pleasures but for everyday treats finding a healthier alternative is a huge step in the right direction.

Maple Hickory Ice Cream with Buttered Pecans

It’s Food ‘n Flix time again! In this monthly group a host picks a movie of their choice that pertains to food. Everyone watches the movie and then makes a recipe which the film inspired. It can be any recipe you want. This month’s pick is hosted by Deb from Kahakai Kitchen and she picked an in theme Thanksgiving movie, Pieces of April.

I can cutting it short to the last minute on this one, it will be a short post, but I was inspired by an item on the foodie neighbor’s menu … with my twist of course … Maple Hickory Ice Cream with Buttered Pecans.

Bean Vegan Lately? Brazilian Vegan Feijoada & Red Bean Ice Cream

More beans are good for you! Here are two great recipes to add to your recipe rotation: Vegan Feijoada and Japanese Red Bean Ice Cream.

For as long as I can remember my mom has been on the hunt for good recipes with beans and legumes. This has influenced me a bit too as I may not search for such recipes as actively but if they fall in my lap my curiosity will be piqued. When I was offered the Vegan Beans from Around the World cookbook for review I could hardly say no. The ‘around the world’ part obviously increased my interest. Would it love up to my high expectation? Let’s find out with the two recipes I prepared from this cookbook: the Brazilian Vegan Feijoada and the Japanese Red Bean Ice Cream.

Kaffir Lime Ginger and Gin Ice Cream

With the arrival of summer comes my NEED to make ice cream. I am way overdue to include an ice cream recipe. I was shocked to realize my last ice cream was posted just over a year ago. Well good news…I made 3 ice creams last weekend, 2 of which are quite exotic in flavor. Here is the first one, a Kaffir Lime Ginger and Gin Ice Cream, and keep an eye out for the other two recipes coming soon.

Cabane à sucre Au Pied de Cochon for Apple Season

A belated Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians! I celebrated quietly with friends and it was nice to say “I thank you for being in my life”. So now I will say the same to all my readers: Thank you for reading and sharing my food adventures with me.

We went to Chinatown for our meal so I have no Thanksgiving dinner to share. But I did recently go back to the Cabane à sucre Au Pied de Cochon sugar shack for a worthy meal of gluttony focused around the apple season.

SRC: Fresh Mint Chocolate Chunk Ice Cream

Today is my group’s reveal day for the Secret Recipe Club. What is the SRC? Basically you are assigned a fellow participant’s blog by the organizer and then you pick a recipe of your choice from that blog and make your version of it. But it is a secret, you cannot reveal whom you picked and what you made until the established posting date and time.

This months I was assigned Baking and Boys! which is written by Katrina. She loves to bake for herself, her husband and their 4 boys. Now that is a house full of testosterone! It reminds me of my great aunt who had 8 boys during the 30s! Hoping for a girl, they gave up at 8.
