Traditional Oliebollen | Dutch Doughnuts

Oliebollen are a fantastic Dutch New Year’s Eve treat. These Dutch doughnuts are made from a thick yeast dough peppered with dried fruits and apples which is fried till perfectly golden.

Can you guess what I will be having for breakfast every day this holiday week? Oh yeah some oliebollen! Oliebollen is a Dutch doughnuts (or donut I never know) that is the quintessential Dutch treat for New Year’s Eve. Apparently over 80% of the Dutch population consumes oliebollen on between Dec 26th/Jan 06th. With this recipe I wish you my readers a very Tasty, Happy and Healthy New Year 2017!

Dutch Stroopwafels, or Syrup Waffle

Stroopwafels are a yeasted cookies, cooked with a shallow waffle cookie press, split down the middle and filled with a gooey butterscotch filling.

A couple of years back my colleagues and I would buy these Dutch cookies almost every day at a grocery store on the way to work. And we were not alone, the store could not keep up with the demand. And then one day there were none ever to be found again, we were very upset. So you can imagine my excitement when I saw this month’s Daring Kitchen challenged was to make Stroopwafels, the very cookies I missed so much.

Cheesepalooza: Gouda

This is the 7th month of the worldwind Cheesepalooza challenge. February is getting down with washed curds.  This month we were asked to make a Havarti, Edam, Fontina or Gouda. I opted for the Dutch creamy and buttery Gouda cheese.
