Savory Truffle Mini Taco Shooter

I do enjoy a nice occasional taco. But I have to say it is not something I grew up with so I often do not think of making or ordering tacos. In Montreal there are not tons of Mexican restaurants and the ones we do have tend to be fancier than faster(er) food fare. So why would I order a taco if I can try something elaborate. This was the thought process that went on in my head after reading July’s Creative Cooking Crew challenge: Tacos, make it your own … take it someplace it’s never been!

I wanted to make something that was not a taco in a traditional meal setting and I was fine if it did not contain all the usual standard ingredients. But I did want to play with a taco concept and highlight a few typical Mexican ingredients. After a lot of brainstorming I settled on this Savory Truffle Mini Taco Shooter creation.

Asian Persuasion Cocktail with Ungava Gin

April 01st every year is the kick-off of cocktail season for me. You see between April 01st and Father’s day my parents and I all have our birthdays, maybe Easter, then there is Mother’s and Father’s Day. So for the exception of my birthday, I am expected to contribute an exotic cocktail. I discovered a bunch of great ones when I was recently on vacation in New Orleans (post coming soon, promise!). But the one I made for Easter was a completely new discovery, starting with the alcohol.

I bet you do not know a whole lot about the Canadian Arctic. I am from Canada and I do not know a lot about that part of my country. But I did recently make one fabulous discovery: Ungava Gin. I was just as shocked as you are right now, there is a fabulous gin being made from hand-picked ingredients found in the far north reaches of Quebec. And with it I made for Easter the Asian Persuasion Cocktail.

Ladies Free Food Nights

One of my foodie partner friends and I went on a secret mission. Much time was spent investigating and analyzing the content of the secret document found on the following blog post of Le Monde de CathIN.

This was a matter of culinary security. Discretion was essential. Lives depended on it. Fake identities were created. The mission:

Test out the Wednesday Night’s Free Food
with the purchase of a Bond themed martini at the Bond Lounge

My secret identity was Fatima Blush of Never Say Never Again. Sexy Fatima is SPECTRE’s assassin and Max Largo’s key hench woman. She also has a massive ego complex — 007 is saved from her only by his special pen. Here is the identity profile along with a Dr William martini.
