Summer bounty is the perfecting time for early harvest pickles. Here is a super cute Pink Garlic Dill Pickles made with just an added touch of beet.

The Food N’ Flix pick this month was another major flashback from the past with Dirty Dancing.  The biggest food moment of the film is when Baby says to Johnny: “I carried a watermelon.” So not the first line you want to say to your heart throb. A watermelon recipe would have been the perfect choice … but my promiscuous twisted mind does not work that way. I went with a pickle reference and I came up with a pretty Pink Garlic Dill Pickles for your summer picnic table.

Cool Cucumber Avocado Soup

Contrary to popular belief summers in Montreal can be incredibly hot and humid. Montreal is actually an island so when you are surrounded by water the humidity levels can skyrocket, both in sweltering summer and chilling winter. Right now we are in a second bought of a heat wave. it is currently 27 C (84 F) with a humidity factor that makes it feel like 34 C (97F).

At work we are freezing with the air conditioner (I am happy); in the buses and subways one wants to pass out, and at home well it depends on each person’s set up. Do you have an air conditioner? If so is it a window, central or portable one?

Pickled Ginger for a Cucumber Carrot Ginger Salad

If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled ginger how many pickled gingers did Peter Piper pick?

This is the one English tongue twister that rolls of my tongue with ease. Well with peppers which I switched up for ginger. For this month’s Creative Cooking Crew challenge we were challenged to pickle something and then use our pickle in a recipe. Can you guess where I got this idea? Yes when I last ate sushi! I pickled my own ginger and then used it for my version of a Japanese salad: a Cucumber Carrot Ginger Salad.
