Masoub, a Saudi Arabian Banana Breakfast Dish

Looking for a new exotic breakfast idea? This delicious Masoub dish is a Saudi Arabian banana bread pudding made in its simplest form, topped with almonds, raisins, whip cream, honey and cheddar.

It’s time for the MENA (Middle Eastern & North African) Cooking Group. This monthly group has for goal to help us discover the culture and cuisine of the countries found in these parts of the world. The host of the month will choose two savory and a sweet dish from the country and the members pick one dish to make. We are visiting Saudi Arabia this month and we will make Masoub, a Saudi Arabian Banana Breakfast Dish.

Sage Egg Biscuit Surprise for #twelveloaves

The Sage Egg Biscuit Surprise is a great breakfast treat and a healthy meal on it’s own. Hidden inside the biscuit is a beautiful soft boiled egg with a still runny yolk.

#twelveloaves is a great group where we bake a bread with the addition of the monthly theme, flavor or ingredient. This month we were asked to explore Thanksgiving Biscuits and Rolls. In Canada, Thanksgiving has come and gone already but who does not love a good biscuit, I had to join in the fun. I fell in love with this Sage Egg Biscuit Surprise recipe and it may be a better Thanksgiving Brunch option for you.

My 8th Blogiversary: Rhubarb Walnut Marmalade

Eight years ago today, on a June 14th 2007, I posted my first blog post ever on Cheap Ethnic Eatz. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined this blog would still be online after so many years. This post is number 926! And I cannot believe I am only 2 years shy away from double digits! This year I will celebrate with a special and sentimental Rhubarb Walnut Marmalade.

I am forever thankful to my family, friends, coworkers and all of you online for reading my posts, eating my food, help preparing it with me and leaving your cherished comments. I could never express enough my gratitude for each time you take a minute and come visit me here.

Vodka Gimlet and French Toast for the Mad Men Series Finale & Giveaway

Tripping back to the 60s with French Toast à la rum and Vodka Gimlet, a retro breakfast spread – cocktail included, for the Mad Men Series Finale!

What does it mean if you’re a man and you wear a hat in Mad Men? What concert is obliquely responsible for Peggy’s haircut? How many secretaries has Don had over the course of the show? Bert Cooper has a giant painting from which renowned artist hanging in his office? And why does Betty hate her neighbour? If you know the answers to any of the questions, you are for sure a hard core Mad Men fan.

I am going to finish season 5 tonight on Netflix. I am a bit late jumping on the bandwagon but I am loving the show. So I was thrilled to be asked to join the Virtual Mad Men Finale Party and host a Giveaway where you could win your own copy of the The Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook.

The Terminal: Food ‘n Flix Roundup

At the beginning of this month, I announced that I would be hosting Food ‘n Flix with my chosen movie The Terminal. I love all the groups I am part of but I have to say there is a level of exchange with this group I just don’t get with others. Not only do we cook from a same inspiration, we also discuss the movies. It creates a real virtual conversation.

Blueberry Banana Muffins

It’s Food ‘n Flix time again! In this monthly group a ‘host’ picks a movie of their choice that pertains to food. Everyone watches the movie and then makes a recipe which the film inspired. It can be any recipe you want. This month’s pick is hosted by Deb at Kahakai Kitchen. She picked a movie that I always love watching over and over again: Stranger Than Fiction.

At the end of the interminable cold so I will keep this short. My inspiration for this month was off the menu board in the bakery the movie takes partly place in, I made Blueberry Banana Muffins.

Breakfast Pizza for Food N Flix

Do you sometimes re-watch a movie you just adored in your teen years to see if you still feel the same way? I do occasionally. Sometimes they are still good, sometimes not. There is one movie however that never fails to live up to my original satisfaction and it just so happens that this particular film is this month’s Food ‘n Flix choice. OK enough suspense, the movie is The Breakfast Club.

Now there are not many food references in the movie besides the title and the scene of the lunch break but inspiration came easy. What do teenagers like to eat? Junk food, especially pizza. What is the most important meal of the day? Breakfast of course. So I think this Breakfast Pizza would be a hit with all pre and post pubescents.
