Spicy Beef Noodle Soup with Chinese Hand Pulled Lāmiàn

This Spicy Beef Noodle Soup, with homemade hand pulled noodles, will leave your tummy happy and your taste buds dancing with a fragrant broth packed with garlic, star anise, ginger and numbingly warm Sichuan peppercorns.

One of the dishes on my China travel bucket list was a Lanzhou Beef Lamian soup. I saw so many videos about lamian, aka hand pulled noodles, I was dying to taste them. It is said that for a person to be considered a master at lamian, they should practice the craft for about 10 years. When I finally got my bowl I was blown away by the soft and silky feel of the noodles and the lovely broth. I could see a lot of love and technique went into making the lamian. I had to try my hand at it and I chose a lovely  spicy beef noodle soup to accompany these flat hand pulled noodles.

Simit Rings: the Turkish breakfast bagel

Turkish Simit Rings make for a wonderful breakfast option, a bit like our bagel. Each twisted circular bread is dipped in a sweet water and then encrusted with sesame or other various seeds before baking.

How many spices can you name off the top of your head? Even better, how many spice do you own? If new spices where on my shopping list I would love to make sure to find a store like the one Vassilis owns in the movie A Touch of Spice, in beautiful Istanbul. But for this Turkish Simit Rings recipe I would rather ask for his very best sesame seeds.

No Crust Asparagus Quiche for Spring

Nothing says spring like a lovely asparagus quiche for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This one really cuts down on the calories too, but not the flavor, by omitting the crust. And it’s gluten-free!

Serendipity: the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way. That is pretty much how I feel today! A fab group of fellow Canadian food bloggers and I are sharing Spring recipes with you all today. And for some crazy reason, it is sunny and the temperature is going to climb to an unusual high of 23 C as well.  Pretty great timing and it just makes me want to spring into action and enjoy a slice of this delicious No Crust Asparagus Quiche!

Chinese Snacks, What a Weird Taste Testing Adventure

I love my friend so much I inflicted Chinese Torture on her! How? By making her taste a bunch of weird Chinese snacks on video! Have a laugh at our expense!

They say when in Rome do as the Romans! Well I was in China so I did as the Chinese when it came to tasting Chinese snacks. The Chinese’s idea of how snacks hit the taste buds is very different than the West. Some snacks were really tasty and fun. Others were just plain weird. Many we only found out what they were until we put it in our mouths.

This week I am serving up a recipe for laughter with a 4-part taste testing series.

This Mars Ice Cream is Out of this World

Want to be the cool mom for your (young and old) kid’s next birthday party? Make this easy Planet Mars Ice Cream inspired by the movie The Martian.

No potatoes for me! Because potatoes is the main food of choice in this movie.  We were asked to watch the film The Martian and make an inspired recipe. And I knew most people would do potatoes. Got nothing against them, but I would loose points for my infamous crazy idea loopy creative reputation. So I came up with an ice cream.
Yep ………….. a Planet Mars Ice Cream!
