The Liver Experiment: the round up and final thoughts

As diligent as I was to make my 10 recipes once a week, I have been putting off the round up. For one I was away on vacation (posts coming soon!) and then I was sick. But I think part of me did not want the experiment to end. No I don’t mean I would like to eat liver every week from now on but it did become a routine, one I was not ready to let go off. Sounds weird but it feels a bit like a mourning.

Perhaps I should do the same thing again with another food nemesis? Well I’ll think about it for a while but for now let’s stick to The Liver Experiment Round-up, and see what I have learned, taken away and if liver is now my friend.

The Liver Experiment Week 10: Liver on Polenta with a Ginger-Onion Confit

I am amazed to write this next sentence. Here we are at the 10th installment, the last recipe, of The Liver Experiment where I have tried to acquire a taste for liver. Over a 10 week period I have cooked, consumed and posted my experience once a week about trying to appreciate my food nemesis. I will have one final round-up post next week and I will dwelve more into what is was like, my challenges, victories and final thoughts. Today we stick with just the last recipe.

I had the hardest time settling on this last dish. I felt my online search for good liver recipes had been exhausted. I wanted this last post to be memorable but was loosing hope. Then I found THE recipe. I present you with a Liver on Polenta with a Ginger-Onion Confit, a masterpiece!

The Liver Experiment Week 9: Beef and Liver Chili

Can you believe we are already at the 9th installment of The Liver Experiment where I will try to acquire a taste for liver? Over a 10 week period I will cook, consume and post my experience once a week about trying to appreciate my food nemesis. I hope my experiment will inspire you to try the same with your own personal food nemesis. And even if you are determined to hate liver for life I hope you will follow along throughout the whole series.

I had leftover beef liver from the Austrian Liver Dumplings on week 3. If you have been reading the series you will know that the dumplings were a disaster as beef liver is very strong in taste and I just could not eat them. But surely a Beef and Liver Chili would be a great way to use what I have left by smothering it in spices and tomatoes, right?

Here we are at the 8th installment of The Liver Experiment where I will try to acquire a taste for liver. And for a second time I am so happy to be able to combine Week 8 with this month’s Creative Cooking Crew. This month our theme was rice. I decided to combine the old and the new in this Moorish and Louisiana fusion dish named Stuffed Baby Eggplants in a Dirty Rice Pilaf.

The Liver Experiment Week 6: Spiced Chicken Liver Tacos with Mole Sauce

Welcome to the 6th installment of The Liver Experiment where I will try to acquire a taste for liver. Over a 10 week period I will cook, consume and post my experience once a week about trying to appreciate my food nemesis. I hope my experiment will inspire you to try the same with your own personal food nemesis. And even if you are determined to hate liver for life I hope you will follow along throughout the whole series.

I seem to have assumed a second challenge too. When you search online for ‘liver recipes’, overall the results are not pretty. So it has been a challenge to find varied and visually appetizing recipes. So far I have made French, Indian, Austrian and Middle-Eastern prettier recipes. This week is no exception with a Mexican dish: Spiced Chicken Liver Tacos with Mole Sauce. Doesn’t a pretty taco look more appealing then a blob of plain cooked liver strips in a plate?

The Liver Experiment Week 5: Stuffed vine leaves with liver and apple

Welcome to the 5th instalment of The Liver Experiment where I will try to acquire a taste for liver. Over a 10 week period I will cook, consume and post my experience once a week about trying to appreciate my food nemesis. I am really enjoying the exchange with my readers with this series all over the social medias and comments. I hope my experiment will inspire you to try the same with your own personal food nemesis. And even if you are determined to hate liver for life I hope you will follow along throughout the whole series.

This is the halfway mark of this experiment already. It feels like it has so gone fast. A friend of mine said jokingly that my exercise motto should be: All we are saying is give liver a chance! At the 5 post mark we have 3 successes, one tolerable recipe and 1 which I found awfulThis week is a definite success and quite an unusual one with Stuffed vine leaves with liver and apple.
