It’s Food ‘n Flix time again! In this monthly group a host picks a movie of their choice that pertains to food. Everyone watches the movie and then makes a recipe which the film inspired. It can be any recipe you want. This month’s pick is hosted by Elizabeth at The Lawyer’s Cookbook and she picked a really original movie: Popeye! No, spinach was not the main inspiration for my recipe but there is some in there. I was actually inspired by a book I was reading and by ketchup, the condiment. That turned into a Ketchup and Beans Salad with Spinach!

Pesto Bianco with Elderflower

Creative pestos are so in right now and we think they are new variants off one “real” pesto recipe. But the truth is there are hundreds of traditional pesto recipes in Italy alone. Pesto Bianco is one of them, made of walnuts, olive oil and ricotta. Inspired by the movie I Am Love, I added a touch of Elderflower flower syrup to mine.

A Canadian Hummus by Sabra

Announcing my debut article about a Canadian only hummus flavor on Citynet Magazine, a fabulous online Montreal lifestyle Magazine!

So excited to share this news with you, I have been asked to become a contributor on a local lifestyle online publication in Montreal called Citynet Magazine. I just published my first post yesterday!

I was invited to a flavor launch party for Sabra Canada’s latest hummus. It was designed and tested exclusively for the Canadian taste palate. The flavor is …. sweet-roasted caramelized onions and accented with aromatic smoked paprika.

And speaking of all things Canadian, we are so proud here in Canada to be hosting the upcoming Pan Am and Parapan Games 2015. This event will bring 7,500 athletes to Toronto for a wonderful series of breathtaking competitions.

Roasted Tomato Jam

One thing I do miss about living in an apartment is not having a garden. In my late teen I took over a section of my parent’s backyard to grow vegetables.Only one problem: I do not have a green thumb. But still it is a fun and relaxing activity. now I have a herb garden and still no green thumb. I did try to grow a tomato plant in a big pot for 2 summers. It was not a big success.

It’s a shame because one of the great pleasures of summer gardens is fresh juicy tomatoes. And it just so happens to be the them of this month’s Creative Cooking Crew challenge. And of course to do something different! So get your fish, chicken or even breakfast toast out for my Roasted Tomato Jam.

Mint Basil Pistachio Pesto

Mint Basil Pistachio PestoDo you grow herbs in your garden? I do but I cook a lot less in the summer so I end up with more herbs than I can handle! A great way to use up a bunch of herbs in one shot is by making a pesto. And let me tell you food blogs are all about pesto right now! I am so amazed by the creativity and variety of pesto out there.

I combined a few recipes to make my own version. I live in a highrise and I have sun only after 3 pm. It can be a challenge for herbs to grow in abundance but mint it never an issue. So of course my pesto with be mint heavy. Check out my Mint Basil Pistachio Pesto recipe.

Media Outings: Je t’aime en Chococlat & Wafu on Dragon’s Den

One fun perk about running a food blog is getting the occasional media event invite. After a while they sort of all blend together. Well this time I got 2 really original invitations I could not pass up: one by Je t’aime en Chocolat, the 3rd annual chocolate fair the weekend before St-Valentines Day, and Wafu, a Montreal company that specializes in Japanese dressings and mayonnaise, which recently appeared on Dragon’s Den.

The Je t’aime en Chococlat event is brimming with artisan chocolates from all over the Province of Quebec. I was spoiled with so many sample and the 5 friends that came with me enjoyed the wonderful treats each kiosk gave away. Ganache and flavored caramels seemed to be quite in fashion. Some of the artisans present were:
