Calabaza En Tacha (Mexican Candied Pumpkin)

Traditional prepared in Mexico for the Day of the Dead, Calabaza en Tacha or candied pumpkin is the perfect fall season treat. Pumpkin slices are slowly simmer in a caramelized dark sugar syrup.

It’s Food ‘n Flix time again! In this monthly group a host picks a movie of their choice that pertains to food. Everyone watches the movie and then makes a recipe which the film inspired. It can be any recipe you want. This month’s pick is hosted by Debra at Eliot’s Eats and she took us on an artistic trip for the senses with the movie Frida! In honor of Frida for the upcoming Dia de Los Muertos, and just as perfect for a Halloween treat, I made Candied Pumpkin slices.

Anchovy Ice Cream on Grilled Caesar Salad

A salad, tossed and served in a bowl – BORING! Instead throw that lettuce on the BBQ and turn your dressing into an ice cream: Anchovy Ice Cream on Grilled Caesar Salad! Voilà!

It can be any recipe you want. This month’s pick is hosted by Kimberly at Coffee and Casseroles and she picked a fun movie that the whole family can enjoy: Hotel Transylvania 2. It’s been a while since I did a crazy recipe, this movie was full of insane inspirations but I took one almost word for word, that is Anchovy Ice Cream!

Ketchup and Beans Salad with Spinach for Popeye

Making your own homemade ketchup is so rewarding, and a millions times healthier than the bottled crap.  Find below one of the original recipes from 1906.

It’s Food ‘n Flix time again! In this monthly group a host picks a movie of their choice that pertains to food. Everyone watches the movie and then makes a recipe which the film inspired. It can be any recipe you want. This month’s pick is hosted by Elizabeth at The Lawyer’s Cookbook and she picked a really original movie: Popeye! No, spinach was not the main inspiration for my recipe but there is some in there. I was actually inspired by a book I was reading and by ketchup, the condiment. That turned into a Ketchup and Beans Salad with Spinach!

Food ‘n Flix: I Am Love Roundup

A feast for your eyes awaits with the I Am Love Roundup for Food ‘n Flix. See what everyone prepared after watching this food film.

At the beginning of this month, I announced that I would be hosting Food ‘n Flix with the movie I Am Love. This is such a fun and interractive group. A side of it I really like is seeing the differences of opinion after we all watch a movie. Opinions are never unanimous and some movies push our limits of what we would normally watch. I was not planning on this scenario since I only saw the movie after picking it, but this was one of those challenging movies. Thankfully the I Am Love Roundup will be enjoyed by all.

Pesto Bianco with Elderflower

Creative pestos are so in right now and we think they are new variants off one “real” pesto recipe. But the truth is there are hundreds of traditional pesto recipes in Italy alone. Pesto Bianco is one of them, made of walnuts, olive oil and ricotta. Inspired by the movie I Am Love, I added a touch of Elderflower flower syrup to mine.

It’s Food ‘n Flix time again! In this monthly group a host picks a movie of their choice that pertains to food. Everyone watches the movie and then makes a recipe which the film inspired. It can be any recipe you want. This month’s pick is hosted by me, here is my announcement post, and I picked an Italian movie called I Am Love. I found my inspiration in the vast palate of Italian dishes, pesto, with a touch of a flower syrup mentioned in the movie, which I just purchased on my trip to Austria. I give you Pesto Bianco with Elderflower.

I Am Love for Food ‘n Flix

The film “I Am Love” tells the story of the wealthy Recchi family, whose lives are undergoing sweeping changes and where food takes center stage in the art of seduction.

By pure coincidence, I am so very honored to be hosting for a second June in a row (I hosted June 2015) this month’s 2016 edition of Food ‘n Flix with the film I Am Love. I get the impression it will be a passionate and intense film where family drama gets expressed a lot at the sumptuous dinner table and behind in the kitchen with the caterer.

And this post just so happens to be 1,000th published post!  And I am less than 2 weeks away from my 9th blog anniversary! I will let you in on a little secret: of all the monthly groups I have participated in this is my favorite. Feel free to join our group, just watch the movie and then head into the kitchen to make a dish inspired by the film.

Bourbon Cherry Pistachio Ice Cream

Looking for a fun and slightly grown up ice cream recipe to try out? This Bourbon Cherry Pistachio Ice Cream is perfect: beautifully jeweled with cherries and pistachio, and spiked with a touch of Bourbon.

It’s Food ‘n Flix time again! In this monthly group a host picks a movie of their choice that pertains to food. Everyone watches the movie and then makes a recipe which the film inspired. It can be any recipe you want. This month’s pick is hosted by Kimberly at Coffee and Casseroles and she picked The Witches of Eastwick. My summery recipe inspiration birthed from this film was a Cherry Pistachio Ice Cream. Good thing because as I write this post the expected temperature today is 38 C with the humidex!
